I'm going to give this drawing to my mom for mother's day, assuming this turns out well.

I see myself in people's faces. Obviously, my own son resembles my face as well as my heart. Most people judge others by outward appearance, but it is the heart that God looks at. Portraiture is an interesting discipline -you create movement by studying stillness, and search for incommunicable truth behind what is visible.

My son, my lifelong friend. I catch glimpses of longing and secrets that fill your soul. You are my brother and my teacher.

(My thyroid surgery has been set for May 11th.)

Self Portrait Completed

Me at 40

Detail

Self Portrait Day 1

Day 1

Blessed

Day 3

Still happy with the eyes, although the nose and mouth seem to be on different planes.
